Catherine "Cathy" Hodges, 64, of Gig Harbor, Washington, passed into the loving arms
of her Savior surrounded by her family on March 9, 2026.
Cathy was born on May 28, 1961 in Skowhegan, Maine, to Ron and Sue Charrier. She
moved to Washington as an infant, grew up in the Bremerton/Silverdale area, and
attended Central Kitsap High School. She went on to attend Central Washington
University, pursuing her passion for Elementary Education and service to others. While
attending CWU she met the love of her life Vern. They married on July 2, 1983, and built
a family together centered on faith in Jesus Christ. Cathy was an incredibly devoted
mother to her children, Bethany, Allen, and Steven, and the proudest grandmother to
Scotlynn and Kai, who brought her immense joy.
Cathy dedicated much of her life to teaching both in public and private schools, and she
homeschooled all three of her children. She most recently worked at Lighthouse
Christian School as a dyslexia specialist and was passionate about helping kids find
and grow their confidence in learning. She was also an active member of Discovery
Bible Church, where her faith and warmth were evident to all who knew her. Cathy had
a remarkable gift for connecting with people and was deeply loved by her family, friends,
students, colleagues, and the families that she served.
Cathy had a creative spirit and loved crafting and creating. She was known for making
lip balms, bath bombs, diaper cakes, bracelets, stocking hats and many other thoughtful
handmade gifts for friends, family, and anyone who might need a little extra kindness.
She was often seen giving her gifts to people she had just met. Her generosity and love
touched countless lives.
Cathy had a rare ability to see the very best in everyone. Her genuine warmth meant
that she quickly became friends with nearly everyone she encountered, and was a clear
and constant example of compassion, encouragement, and the love of Jesus. She
never wavered from her convictions and steadfast belief that "God is good all the time".
She is deeply missed by her family, friends, students, and all who were blessed to know
her. She is survived by Vern, her devoted husband of 43 years, her children Bethany,
Allen (Maggie), and Steven; her grandchildren Scotlynn and Kai; her siblings Caren
(Louie), Ron (Kelli), Connie (Steve), John (Jill); and many nieces, nephews and
extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Ron and Sue Charrier, and
we know that their recent reunion was beautiful! We cannot wait for the day when we
get to see her again.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lighthouse Christian School on April 4th at 1:00p.
