Eldora C Sloan was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, on December 13, 1923. She passed away on June 3, 2023, at the age of 99. Eldora has been a resident of the Northwest for 85 years.
Eldora grew up on a dairy farm near Mitchell, South Dakota, and moved with her family to Enumclaw, Washington when a teenager.
She attended both Washington State University and the University of Washington. While finishing her studies at the U of W, she worked in the Smith Building in downtown Seattle. During World War II, she worked for
the Boeing Company alongside other "Rosie's", helping the war effort.
Eldora met her husband Clinton Sloan while working for the Boy Scouts of America in Missoula, Montana, following his service in the South Pacific. In September of 1947, they married and teamed up over the years raising their six children, building three homes, owning a motel, and eventually retiring to enjoy their family, their church, and some travels. They were married for nearly 55 years before Clinton preceded her in death in 2002.
Eldora volunteered and worked for their church – Panther Lake Community Church – helped work their small farm and was involved with her children's schools for 17 years in Kent, Washington. In 1971, following their family's time in Kent, Eldora, Clint, and their three younger children moved to the Mount Rainier area and owned a motel for eight years. Following this, they built their third house in the country outside the Roy, Washington area. Eldora was a fabulous cook, a skilled seamstress, a wordsmith, a glass artist, and a gardener. She loved the outdoors, their small family farm, and hiking the trails in Mt. Rainier National Park. She gave of herself to her family and friends with a generous
and sincere heart.
