John Herbert Hibben, 87, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023, at St Peter's Hospital in Olympia, Washington. John was born December 24,1935 in Port Angeles, Washington to Thomas & Phyllis Hibben. He spent his early years in Port Angeles, where his father was part of the Port Angeles Police Force. His family, consisting of his brothers Edward, Thomas and sister Dorothy later moved to Tacoma Washington.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington in 1954. He continued his education, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree of Business Administration and Finance at Washington State University. John entered the Army Artillery at Fort Lewis Washington as a Second Lieutenant in 1959, later joining the Army Reserves where he continued to serve until his retirement in 1995 as a Lieutenant Colonel. John also worked for many years as a Financial Consultant, retiring form Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as a Senior Vice President in 2007.
Forever the adventurer, in 1952 John obtained his Private Pilots License. During the mid 1950's John worked for the National Park Service as part of the Mt. Rainier Search & Rescue Team. He participated in many rescue operations, climbing to the summit of Mt. Rainier three times, to remove injured climbers. John loved the outdoors, sail boat racing, climbing Mt. Rainier, hiking and was an avid fisherman.
John was the definition of an officer and a gentleman, a person of strong Christian faith. He was a member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church and severed as the parish Treasurer for many years. He is survived by his wife Theresa, sons Daniel, Alexander and Christopher and grandchildren Siobhan and Penelope.
