Obituary

Joseph Anthony Vandermark, age 97, passed away on September 6, 2023 in Auburn, Washington.  He was born in Corbin, Kentucky on January 12, 1926 to Frank and Dorothy (Albright) Vandermark. Family members called him Tony. Others knew him as Joe. During WWII, he served
as a tank crewman in the U.S. Army. Joe was injured when his tank was hit and received a Purple Heart. He also served during the Korean War.
On October 27, 1952, Joe married Rita Dusini. They moved to Washington state, where they raised three children – Fred, Mark, and Rosemary. Joe worked as a forest ranger for three years on the Olympic Peninsula before taking a job with the U.S. Postal Service. He worked as a mail
carrier in Seattle until he retired in the 1980's. He was a devout Catholic and was always willing to help others in need. He often volunteered
his time at St Vincent de Paul and at the church. Joe was a good swimmer and loved being in or near the water. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, and riding bikes. He was preceded in death by his wife Rita, son Mark, his parents, brothers Fred and Vernon Vandermark, and sister Rosemary Hegenauer. He is survived by his son Fred (Mary Ellen) Vandermark, daughter Rosemary (Todd) Franz, grandson Nolan (Calli) Franz, granddaughter Amanda Franz, and several nieces and nephews.
