Richard Bostic was born 97 years ago in Pomona California. He was the third of seven
children born to Richard Henry Bostic Sr and Lucy Elizabeth Anthony Bostic. As it would
come to no surprise they were a busy family. The Bostics had a family business of
building fruit and vegetable boxes. Richard Jr recalled many stories of the speed to
which they could make these boxes. Mom labeling, Dad building and Richard one of the
stackers.
At 17 Richard enlisted and served four years in the U.S. Navy. He fought during WW ll
and shared stories, one such story was of the time they survived a typhoon. He was
stationed on the U.S.S. Lander and the U.S.S. Robert l. Paine ships. He was awarded
the American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign
and World War ll Victory Medals.
After the service he went to school with his GI bill. He was employed by McDonnell
Douglas working on airplanes' navigational systems. He was always keen to share his
experience of working on the third stage of the Saturn V launch vehicle.
Richard raised 3 children with his first wife before meeting the love of his life Doris. Dick
(as she lovingly called him) and Doris loved to dance & party with friends. After Dicks
retirement they moved to Olympia Wa. They spent many years traveling in their
motorhome. They enjoyed family gatherings with their blended family of six children and
were blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great
grandchildren,
Dick is remembered by all that knew him as the smartest guy they know. He spent
many hours woodworking. He made clocks and furniture. He was kind and funny. Dick
was very attentive to the love of his life, Doris.
Richard/Dick is survived by his sister Nancy Huffman, Portland; children Kathleen
(Andre) Cardenas, Washington; Michael Bostic, Washington; and stepchildren Elizabeth
(Harold) Doty, Arizona, James (Beth) Young, Washington, Katherine (William) Blume,
Tennessee; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Richard and
Lucy, siblings Betty Conners, Elmer (Red) Bostic, Della (Dee) Stull, Allan Bostic, Claude
(Earl) Bostic, Daughter Brandy Summer and Dicks wife of 49 years Doris Jean Baugher
Bostic.
A Celebration of life for Richard and Doris will be held on September 27, 2024 at 1pm at the Foundation House in Federal Way:
