Roby Ranta, a beloved figure in the automotive community and beyond, passed away on leap year, February 29, 2024. Roby was truly a Renaissance person. His multifaceted nature highlighted his wide range of abilities and interests. While his eclectic tendencies highlighted his broad and diverse influences. He did not limit himself to one path or perspective, instead he drew from a rich tapestry of experiences, skills and ideas. It was inspiring to see how Roby blended those elements together that created his unique identity.

Born in 1957, Rony's passion for automobiles led him to establish BUGHAUS Services, Inc. For 26 years he dedicated himself to repairing, servicing, restoring or resto-modding Volkswagen vehicles. At one time Roby and his team built 23 "MUG BUGS" from VW Bugs, to promote Mug Root Beer for the soda giant. His commitment to excellence earned him a reputation as one of the foremost experts on VW. Roby also had one of the largest inventories of VW parts in the Northwest, and his shop became a hub for VW enthusiasts. Despite closing his shop in 2005, he continued to work every day.

Roby's entrepreneurial spirit was evident and throughout his life, he ventured into various endeavors. Including a partnership with his brother, Michael Bigs (RIP), in an auto body and paint shop, and his involvement with "THE BUNGEE BROTHERS", where he shared the thrill of bungee jumping with others.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Roby was a connoisseur of health foods, fine wines, and cheeses, including his love for nutritious eating from his father's health food store. His culinary skills, green thumb, and penchant for gardening brought beauty and flavor to his life and those around him. Roby loved his salads, smoothies, and trail mixes. His friends would tease, "there goes Roby eating his nuts and twigs and branches." When he got a bite of mold, he would brush it off with a smile and say, "a lil' mold is good for you"!

Roby's zest for life extended to his hobbies and adventures. From his travels through Europe to his participation in unique events like the "Bering Sea Ice Golf Classic", Roby embraced every opportunity for exploration and excitement. His artistic talents shone through in his public art mural in Spain, his tie dye creations, and jewelry designs. His chimney work, natural outdoor stone steps, cooking coves, and rock fountain, demonstrated his skills in masonry and in dealing with marble in kitchens, bathrooms, and home office remodels.

Roby cherished his family, finding immense joy in his children, Ria, Rory, and Brianne, and the newest addition, his grandson, Cooper, from daughter Ria. His partnership with Natasha Gandia, was a source of strength and companionship, embodying the true meaning of love and friendship.

Roby will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering generosity and willingness to help others. He had the ability to bring out the best in everyone he met. Roby's legacy lives on in the memories of those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and the community he touched.
