Stephen Kent Douglas, 69 passed away July 14, 2024.

Steve was born in Anchorage, Alaska on July 4, 1955. He graduated from Hallsboro High School, Hallsboro, NC as valedictorian in 1973. He attended governors' school while at HHS. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and had achieved Eagle Scout rank by the time he was 16 years old. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated in 1980 with a BA in mathematics.

Soon after graduating from UNC, he began working for SAS Institute, Inc. Cary, NC as a graphic artist/compositor. His dream of becoming a Naval Pilot led him to apply for the Aviation Officer Candidate School in May 1983. He was in the Navy until 1991 where he was a member of the Carrier-based Anti-Submarine Squadron (VS-37), Training Squadron (VT-10) and Naval Air Training and Procedures Standardization (T-2 NATOPS). From 1991 until 1995 he was in the U.S. Naval Reserves where he was a training officer to support active-duty counterparts onboard USS Kitty Hawk, DV-63 (aircraft carrier).

After he retired from the Navy, Steve went to work at Boeing in Seattle, Washington. Steve worked for Boeing for almost 20 years where he wrote 737/787 Flight Crew Operations Manuals and 787 Flight Training Development. Steve was an avid photographer and took some beautiful pictures of Lake Waccamaw and from his time in the Navy.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Thomas Benjamin Douglas.

He is survived by his mother, Faye Samonds Douglas of Lake Waccamaw, a brother, Benjamin Keith Douglas and wife Karen of Smyrna, Georgia; a sister, Lisa Douglas Gurkin of Lake Waccamaw, NC; two nephews, Curtiss Douglas Wilkinson (Rhiannon) and their daughter Madyx Olivia Wilkinson of Whiteville, NC and Nicholas Kent Wilkinson (Lena) of Wilmington, NC.

Visitors are welcome to visit his mother in her home at Lake Waccamaw. A private graveside service with the family will be held at a later time.
